The release date of GTA 6, which Rockstar Games had previously set for 2025, has been internally postponed to 2026, according to a new rumor. This information comes from GTABase member Billsyliamgta aka “Liam”, who posted a tweet to this effect on X last weekend.
According to the report, the delay is based on statements from “several developers from two studios”. Rockstar Games is said to need more time internally, which is why the game is now not expected to be released until early to mid-2026.
Currently, it is still expected to be released in the third or fourth quarter of 2025, as this was the last official statement from Rockstar Games regarding the release date of GTA 6. Should the postponement actually be true, it would not be a serious delay, but for fans of Grand Theft Auto it would still mean another year of waiting.
Another point of the rumor concerns the PC version, which is allegedly not due to be released until 12 to 18 months after the console version. This would mean that the PC version will not be released until sometime in 2027.
However, this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt, as nothing official has yet been announced by developer Rockstar Games or publisher Take-Two Interactive and the information has not yet been confirmed by any other source. However, this could change quickly if the rumor is true.
In the meantime, Tom Henderson (via Insider Gaming) and Jason Schreier, other insiders who know the industry inside out and are generally very well informed, have spoken out. Schreier emphasized in several tweets that, according to his information, there is little to suggest that GTA 6 will be postponed until 2026.
Six employees of Rockstar Games are said to have told the insider that they had not heard anything about a postponement. At the same time, Schreier points out that it could also be that the staff at Rockstar Games have simply not been informed of a postponement by the management.
“The internet (and my DMs) blew up this weekend over a rumor that GTA VI is delayed. Good news is that six Rockstar employees all told me they have not heard of any delay. Bad news: it’s a big, ambitious game and could very well slip! Too much time left to say anything definitive”
