GTA 6 system requirements: Which graphics card and processor do I need?

Rockstar Games released the first trailer for GTA 6 at the beginning of December 2023. The release date and supported platforms were also revealed.

While the open-world title is set to be released in 2025 for the two current-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, there has been no word yet on a PC version.

However, we are sure that Rockstar Games will also announce a PC version at a later date.

The expected minimum and recommended graphics and PC system requirements for GTA 6 are outlined below.

As the title will be released for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, we can already make a pretty good prediction for the expected PC system requirements based on the hardware installed in the consoles.

What hardware is in a PS5?

  1. CPU (Central Processing Unit): The PS5 has a custom-built AMD Ryzen Zen 2 octa-core processor with a clock frequency of 3.5 GHz.
  2. GPU (Graphics Processing Unit): The graphics performance is provided by a customized AMD Radeon RDNA 2 GPU, which offers a performance of around 10.28 teraflops.
  3. Memory (RAM): The PS5 is equipped with 16 GB of GDDR6 RAM, which is accessible to both the CPU and the GPU. This enables fast data transfer and smooth performance.
  4. Storage: The PS5 uses a fast SSD (Solid State Drive) with a capacity of 825 GB. This SSD not only offers a higher storage capacity, but also significantly shorter loading times compared to conventional hard disks.
  5. Drive: The PS5 is available in versions with and without an Ultra HD Blu-ray drive. The drive enables the playback of physical discs and also serves as an additional storage option.
  6. Connections and expansions: The PS5 has USB ports, HDMI 2.1 for 4K resolution at higher refresh rates, an Ethernet port for wired networking and an NVMe M.2 slot for additional storage.

What hardware is in a PS5?

  1. CPU (Central Processing Unit): The Xbox Series X is powered by a custom-built AMD Zen 2 octa-core processor with a clock speed of 3.8 GHz.
  2. GPU (Graphics Processing Unit): The graphics performance is provided by a customized AMD Radeon RDNA 2 GPU, which offers a performance of around 12 teraflops.
  3. Memory (RAM): The Xbox Series X is equipped with 16 GB GDDR6 RAM for fast data transfer and smooth performance.
  4. Storage: Similar to the PS5, the Xbox Series X uses a fast NVMe SSD (Solid State Drive) with a capacity of 1 TB. This enables short loading times and improves overall performance.
  5. Drive: The Xbox Series X has a 4K UHD Blu-ray drive that can be used to play physical discs and install games.
  6. Connections and expansions: The console offers USB ports, HDMI 2.1 for 4K at higher refresh rates, an Ethernet port for wired networking, and there’s also the option to integrate additional storage via Xbox Series X’s dedicated expansion cards.

Accordingly, we need similar hardware to be able to play GTA 6 properly on the PC. Thanks to additional graphics settings, even more is possible on your own computer with better hardware.

GTA 6 minimum system requirements

Here are the assumed system requirements for an optimal gaming experience:

  • Operating system: Windows 10/11
  • Processor: Intel Core i7 8700K / AMD Ryzen 7 3700x
  • Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080Ti / AMD Radeon RX5700XT
  • RAM: 8GB
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage space: 150GB SSD

GTA 6 Recommended system requirements

  • Operating system: Windows 11 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i9-10900K / AMD Ryzen 5 5900X
  • Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 / AMD Radeon RX 6800XT
  • RAM: 16GB or more
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage space: 150GB NVMe SSD

An Nvidia GeForce GTX 3080 GPU or an AMD Radeon RX 5900XT and 16 GB of RAM or more are estimated as recommended specifications for decent graphical performance for GTA 6. On the other hand, the estimated minimum requirements for GTA 6 include an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti GPU or an AMD Radeon RX 5700XT and at least 8 GB of RAM.

We can assume that no exceptionally powerful PC is needed to play GTA 6 at 1080p with most settings on low and a mostly smooth 30-60FPS framerate. Most gaming PCs manufactured in the last six to seven years should be able to handle the title at the listed settings.

And even if you have a slightly older graphics card, you should still be able to meet the minimum requirements for the release of GTA 6.

And in terms of graphics cards, any mid-range graphics card from the last few years should also meet the requirements of GTA 6. For shorter loading times, however, you should definitely consider upgrading to a significantly faster SSD or even NVMe SSD. This is because we can assume that the open-world title requires many large files to calculate the game world quickly.

Although the final system requirements for Grand Theft Auto 6 may differ from the specifications listed above, you can be sure that they will exceed the system requirements of GTA 5.

What are the system requirements for GTA 5?

Minimum system requirements:

Here are the recommended system requirements for Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5) on PC. These specifications may vary depending on game updates, but these are the general requirements:

  • Operating system: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor @ 2.5 GHz
  • Working memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Grafikkarte: NVIDIA 9800 GT 1 GB / AMD HD 4870 1 GB (DX 10, 10.1, 11)
  • DirectX: Version 10
  • Storage space: 72 GB available storage space
  • Soundcard: 100% DirectX 10 compatible

Recommended system requirements:

  • Operating system: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2 GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4 GHz (8 CPUs)
  • Working memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GTX 660 2 GB / AMD HD 7870 2 GB
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage space: 72 GB available storage space
  • Soundcard: 100% DirectX 10 compatible

It is important to note that these requirements cover the performance for different graphics settings and resolutions. To play the game on higher settings, more powerful hardware components are of course recommended.

Summary

For upcoming games announced for 2024 or later, 12 GB of RAM or even more may be required.

Please note, however, that the system requirements listed here are only forecasts. There is also the possibility that GTA 6 will require even more resources than originally assumed.
