Hardly any other question is as hotly debated in the gaming industry as the release date of GTA 6. Although Rockstar Games itself has roughly narrowed down the approximate release date in the first trailer, fans would naturally prefer a more precise date.
Unsurprisingly, there has been a lot of speculation about the release plans for GTA 6 since the trailer was released.
GTA 6: Take-Two announces release date
Now publisher Take-Two Interactive has at least shed some light on the matter, but in doing so has also offended many. Because we can no longer expect an early release of GTA 6 in early 2025!
As part of the quarterly figures for the 2024 fiscal year, the parent company of Rockstar Games confirmed that the open-world title for consoles will not be released until fall 2025 and therefore no longer in the current 2024/25 fiscal year.
“Our outlook reflects a narrowing of Rockstar Games’ previously established window of Calendar 2025 to Fall of Calendar 2025 for Grand Theft Auto VI. We are highly confident that Rockstar Games will deliver an unparalleled entertainment experience, and our expectations for the commercial impact of the title continue to increase.”
On the one hand, this rules out a release in spring, but at the same time it means that there will probably be no postponement to 2026, as some fans and insiders have been predicting in recent weeks and months.
Shortly after the announcement, Take-Two’s share price fell by more than 5 percent at times.
What about the PC version? Take-Two has not yet commented on a PC version of GTA 6 in this context. However, it can be assumed that PC players will not be able to expect a corresponding version of GTA 6 until around a year later. The PC version of GTA 5 was also released 8 months later.
A version for the last-gen consoles, on the other hand, will in all likelihood not be released at all, as the aging consoles simply no longer have the necessary power to display GTA 6 properly and, above all, smoothly.
