Has the release of GTA 6 been pushed back internally?

Rockstar Games has so far only given a vague time frame for the release of GTA 6. The open-world title is scheduled for release sometime in 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Due to an optimistic sales forecast of 8 billion dollars for the 2025 financial year, which runs from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025, it has been speculated that Grand Theft Auto 6 could possibly be released in January, February or March 2024.

As the gaming website VGC reports, Take-Two Interactive has revised its outlook for the coming financial year. The forecast has been revised from 8 billion to 7 billion dollars.

It is suspected that GTA 6 has been postponed internally. Analysts Nick McCay and Michael Pachter from Wedbush Securities announced last Friday that the title has probably slipped out of the originally expected release window of early 2025.

In a research note titled ‘$7 Billion Means No GTA in FY:25’, the analysts wrote: “We can only surmise that GTA VI has slipped out of FY:25, in-line with our earlier expectation.”

“Management had said that next year’s bookings number will be just over $7 billion, a far cry from its initial comments of $8 billion in May, and its first revision of just under $8 billion in November,” they added.

“The drop makes us almost certain that GTA VI will not be releasing next FY. With that said, we have no reason to believe the game has slipped out of calendar 2025, but it is reasonable to assume that it will launch later in the year.”

It therefore seems quite plausible to assume that the title will not be released until later next year.

Rockstar released the first official trailer for the game in December, which received over 90 million views in just 24 hours.

As well as a 2025 release date for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, it has been confirmed that the game will take place partly in Vice City – a fictional Miami called Leonida – and will have two main characters, Lucia and Jason.

On Thursday, Take-Two announced that Grand Theft Auto 5 has shipped over 195 million units since its release in 2013. The Grand Theft Auto series has shipped over 420 million units since its launch in 1997.
